zFrame® zCenter Server

The zCenter Server is a powerful new concept in providing multiple l/O functions in one compact and economical package. Utilizing the latest FLEX-ES®  technology, FLEX Control Unit behavior, to supply disk, tape, terminal and other resources to System z™, the zCenter offers exciting new solutions to many computing center challenges.

Highlights:

  • The zCenter can connect to traditional mainframes or zFrames via one or multiple ESCON® or Parallel channels or via network (LAN) channels to any zFrame system.
  • zCenter/Storage Server offers large capacity disk storage using high performance SCSI-320 disks in a RAID-5 environment.
    • zCenter/Storage Server can provide up to 2.8 TB internally, and 6 TB in a rack based unit, emulating standard 3390 devices.
    • Two (2) GB of memory is standard for disk caching and can be configured to your data access patterns to ensure fast response times.
    • Backup of the disks can be done using the included SDLT tape drive.
  • The zCenter FakeTape™ Server offers large capacity emulation of tape files on disk to drastically reduce the number of tape volumes and tape mounts in your z/OS or System z environment.
    • CSI technicians can help you implement 'auto-mounting' of compressed FakeTape files when your system calls for a tape mount, eliminating manual intervention.
    • Up to 6 TB of disk space may be configured as FakeTapes.
  • zCenter SCSI-Tape Server provides the connection of high performance, high capacity SCSI tape drives (such as 320 GB SDLT) to your traditional or System z Server.
    • SCSI-Tape Server devices can appear to the system as almost any traditional tape device (3490, etc.).
  • zCenter Terminal Server provides the connection of incoming TN3270 (IP connected) terminal sessions from normal workstations that appear as channel connected 3270 devices to your Operating System.
    • Using the zCenter Terminal Server can simplify your z/OS networking environment and reduce the TCP/IP stack workload.
    • The zCenter Terminal Server can replace an IBM® 2074 while providing additional function and capabilities.
  • All zCenter Server functions can be combined into a single compact tower unit or rack mounted, further enhancing the convenience and savings.
  • The zCenter uses IBM eServer® System x™ models specifically designed for high availability applications, featuring 533MHz Front Side Bus, six PCI slots, Error Correcting memory, and multiple redundant components.
  • Uses FLEX-ES from Fundamental Software Inc. (FSI), Premier provider of z/OS emulation software. Includes 3 years of FSI FLEX-ES support.
